About the Role

This position is located in the Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation Branch of the Division of Enforcement Litigation. The function of this Branch is to conduct the litigation in the Court of Appeals involving the enforcement or review of Board. The incumbent of this position serves as one of several supervisors in the Branch and is responsible for preparing and litigating the most difficult cases in the Courts of Appeals.

What You'll Do

  • As a Supervisory General Attorney (Labor) (Supervisory Appellate Attorney), GS-0905-15, your typical work assignments may include: Performing legal research and analysis; ensuring the technical accuracy and completeness of briefs in addressing the factual and legal issues involved with cases to include the applicable citations of law.
  • Supervising a team of attorneys, overseeing workloads, contributing to case assignment decisions, training and developing team members to ensure high-quality products.
  • Making oral presentations of cases as the sole representative for the Agency before the Court of Appeals, serving on Agency and Branch committees, effectively providing advice to Agency leadership.
  • Analyzing the rationales of Board decisions and orders, constructing arguments to defend Board findings, and advising attorneys on the merits of cases, courses of action, general approaches, organization of briefs, and lines of legal research.
  • Preparing or overseeing the preparation of comprehensive written briefs of the highest quality and producing a range of written products to include memos, motions, and rehearing papers, and Supreme Court documents.

Requirements

  • This position has a basic education requirement listed under the Qualifications section of this announcement.
  • (NOTE: Current NLRB Attorneys may not be required to submit a copy of their transcripts.
  • However, NLRB employees within 3 years from receiving their Juris Doctorate degree, must provide a transcript with their application package.) You must meet all qualification requirements.
  • All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.
