About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
What You'll Do
- →The Orlando VA Healthcare System is seeking an experienced Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS).The incumbent has the oversight of more than one laboratory specialty such as but not limited to Chemistry and Special Chemistry.
- →The Supervisory CLS is responsible for providing technical, professional, and administrative leadership for the Chemistry/Special Chemistry Clinical Laboratory Section at the main Hospital Medical Center Facility in Orlando, FL.
- →The Supervisory CLS ensures the efficient operation of a high-complexity laboratory classified as group 1a, which processes over one million tests annually.
- →The incumbent maintains effective working relationships with other hospital departments and is fully accountable for managing a large laboratory staff, including direct supervision of at least one senior (GS-12) subordinate.
- →This role includes oversight of laboratory workflow, staff training/competency, compliance with regulatory standards, and quality assurance measures.
- →Duties Include: Plans and schedules on-going work and huddles; defines bench assignments for optimum efficiency and workflow.
- →Adjusts staffing levels or work procedures as needed.
- →Chooses methods for achieving work goals, objectives, and management strategies.
- →Is responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of performance and the reporting of nonconformance events.
- →Ensures corrective action is initiated when test performance deviates from established performance specifications or nonconforming events.
- →The incumbent develops and serves as an approving official for position descriptions, functional statements, performance standards, and competency programs for staff and conducts annual performance ratings.
- →Acts as a consultant to the Supervisory CLS (Laboratory Manager), Pathologists and Chief of P&LMS regarding implementation of programs/policies.
- →Gives advice, counsel, and instruction to other individuals on both work and administrative matters.
- →Acts as the technical supervisor for personnel, quality control, records control, proficiency testing, inspection, and accreditation, nonconformance events of ordered laboratory procedures within their assigned laboratory specialties.
