Supervisory Cardiologist

About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
What You'll Do
- →The successful applicant must have excellent communication skills and ability to work with all staff.
- →Duties will include but are not limited to: Provide a full range of supervisor duties and managing employee performance.
- →Povide comprehensive medical and selected specialty services for outpatients.
- →Attend Medicine Service meetings, and meetings with other medical center staff Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with cardiovascular disease according to standard techniques and guidelines.
- →Provide services such outpatient and inpatient cardiology consultation and ongoing patient management in outpatient and inpatient settings.
- →Perform chart reviews and coordinate with Hospitalists regarding patient care issues.
- →You will be responsible for timely documentation of patient care data in electronic medical health records, as per facility policy.
- →Develop and maintain performance plans, assign and monitor work, provide guidance and coaching, approve leave and resolve conflicts.
- →The physician will provide consultation services and follow up of cardiovascular patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
- →Collaborate with Nurse Practitioners.
- →Attend to patients in outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, Urgent Care, mobile clinic and telehealth clinic.
- →Perform cardiology procedures such as trans-esophageal echocardiograms and electrical cardioversions, with pacemaker skills desirable but not required.
- →Interpretation of ECGs, Holter and event monitor recordings and transthoracic echocardiograms.
- →Perform exercise (treadmill, bicycle) or pharmacologic (dipyridamole, adenosine, Lexiscan [regadenoson], dobutamine) cardiac stress testing (current ACLS certification required for privileging Establish professional working relationships with clinical service providers within the medical center and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation/examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
