About the Role

This position is located in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Southeast Network (VISN 7), VA Augusta Health Care System (VAAHCS) in Augusta, Georgia located in the Augusta Blind Rehabilitation Center (ABRC). The primary purpose of this Blind Rehabilitation Specialist Supervisory is to serve as an Supervisory Blind Rehabilitation Specialist.

What You'll Do

  • Major Duties include but are not limited to: Review Veteran applications for admission to the Augusta Blind Rehabilitation Center(ABRC) and utilizes professional knowledge of blind rehabilitation to determine appropriateness of the Veteran's application for services.
  • Application review frequently requires consultation with the Physician, Optometrist, Psychologist, Social Worker, Nursing and/or the Clinical Director, as well as the referring facility.
  • Notifies the Veteran and the Veteran's VIST Coordinator regarding the outcome of the referral.
  • Participate in the planning, review and evaluation of proposed therapy programs at the inpatient Blind Rehabilitation Center (BRC).
  • Educational liaison for the Blind Rehabilitation Center(BRC) Service Line.
  • Establish and maintain an information system in which all BRC staff have access to timely veteran treatment information (SharePoint, BR 5.0 Database, and VSSC, DSS) and provides the tracking of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) indicated in the ABRC Strategic Plan.
  • Research and evaluate new devices and training techniques.
  • Periodic evaluation of instructional plans developed by instructors for veterans assigned to them for training, thus insuring consistency in curriculum; teaching methodology and quality of instruction.
  • Schedule, plan, and coordinate training programs for family members and visitors.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of supplies and equipment essential in the administration of Veteran training programs and regular functions of the department.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies and equipment for his/her section and ensuring that adequate levels are maintained.
  • Review prosthetic requests for patients in the area she/he supervises.
  • Work Schedule: 7:30AM to 4:30PM, Monday -Friday Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
