Structural Worker Welder/Shipfitter

About the Role
This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Industrial Department, Structural Shop in Baltimore, MD.
What You'll Do
- →You will perform journeyman welding tasks in the 3G, 4G and fillet position to include but not limited to common welding practices using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), flux core arc welding (FCAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) equipment.
- →Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.
- →Typical work assignments include: Identifying different types of metal and alloys and also determining thickness and popper grade.
- →Developing templates, layout and fabricates complex and simple sub assemblies to include but not limited to shell plates, frames, water tight and non-watertight bulkheads, deck beams, superstructures, foundations, ladders, pipe rails, rudders, cradles and many other items.
- →Using plasma arc and oxy-acetylene torch for burning, flushing and heating material.
- →Using lifting eyes, chain fails, overhead cranes, slings, chains and other lifting gear to move material or regulate it on the job.
- →Erecting hull components on site in accordance with center line, base line, buttock lines, waterlines, such as struts, shaft tubes, foundations, and other hull appendages.
- →Performing tack-welding tasks in the 3F and 4F positions to include but not limited to common welding practices using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), flux core arc welding (FCAW), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) equipment.
- →Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.
