About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

What You'll Do

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional This position is located at the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center, providing Psychological Services in support of the Mental Health Care Line.
  • The incumbent provides professional consultation pertaining to human behavior, determining the reasons for that behavior and predicting and/or modifying the behavior.
  • The incumbent works individually or as a member of a multi disciplinary treatment team to provide recommendations, and/or treatment plans concerning psychological and neuropsychological assessment and intervention.
  • Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Performs psychological and neuropsychological assessment, evaluation and treatment of patients with problems of cognitive deficits, personality, emotional adjustment or mental illness.
  • Performs psychotherapy with patients, either through individual sessions or through group therapy sessions.
  • Uses therapeutic techniques.
  • Performs neuropsychological testing, clinical interviews, and observation, assesses intelligence, behavior and personality variables.
  • Plays a major role in differential diagnosis of functional and organic disorders.
  • Administers a wide variety of group and individual psychological tests including neuropsychological instruments.
  • Administers and interprets neuropsychological test batteries.
  • Provides advice to other staff professionals in an attempt to promote and preserve a therapeutic environment for individual patients.
  • Provides advice regarding appropriate staff responses toward a patient or specific environmental factors that will stimulate more self reliance, reduce anxiety or achieve more socially adaptable behavior patterns.
  • Determines when reassessment is appropriate and adjusts treatment plan accordingly.
  • Serves as expert psychological resource for the multidisciplinary team and recommends adjustments to other professional staff's relationship with patients or devises programs that employ new or unique techniques to ensure a therapeutic environment.
