About the Role

The psychologist serves as a key member of the Caregiver Support Program (CSP) within the Centralized Eligibility and Appeals Team (CEAT). The CSP is one of the fastest-growing service areas in the Veterans Health Administration, driven by infrastructure modernization, innovative program development, and the expansion of services under the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers as authorized by the MISSION Act.

What You'll Do

  • VA Careers - Psychologist: https://youtube.com/embed/77qHlLw9Xck Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include, but not limited to: Reviews dispositions of PCAFC initial eligibility decisions, reassessments, and appeal decisions for clinical eligibility determinations within the timeframes indicated in the final rule, applying a psychological perspective to each evaluation.
  • Analyzes mental health data obtained from the VHA electronic health record and collateral sources to determine PCAFC clinical eligibility and documents all findings using approved CSP PCAFC templated notes.
  • Works collaboratively with inter-professional team members at Regional, VISN, and facility levels to ensure PCAFC eligibility determinations are delivered objectively, with strong and consistent inter-rater agreement, and that outcomes are documented and communicated in a clear, coordinated manner.
  • Utilizes knowledge of PCAFC clinical eligibility to coordinate with other regional CEATs on the transfer of appeals for inter-VISN evaluation.
  • Applies comprehensive expertise in administering, scoring, and interpreting a broad range of psychological and psychometric assessments (e.g., attention/concentration, memory, executive functioning, intelligence, reasoning, and judgment) to support CEAT case disposition and team recommendations.
  • Conducts peer reviews from a psychological standpoint, which may occur at the regional level, to support national consistency in determinations.
  • Collaborates with and contributes expertise to a community of practice across VISNs and regions, working closely with CSP CSCs and CEAT members.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm Recruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
  • Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
  • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Position may be eligible for ad-hoc Telework, at managers discretion.
