About the Role
This position is intermittent, which means there are no set hours or days scheduled on a regular basis. The New Jersey VA Health Care System is seeking qualified candidates for an intermittent Psychiatrist position at the Toms River Outpatient Clinic in New Jersey.
What You'll Do
- →Duties: This Staff Psychiatrist serves as the outpatient mental health provider to Veterans needing outpatient medication management at the Toms River Clinic.
- →The provider will manage scheduled and unscheduled patients in the outpatient clinic setting including: Provide holistic, strengths-based, person-centered mental health care to an assigned panel of Veterans.
- →This includes, but is not limited to, medication-assisted treatment for substance use disorders and psychiatric care for Veterans with a wide range of mental health diagnoses and trauma-related conditions.
- →Work collaboratively as a member of the clinic team, including prescribers, therapists, and schedulers.
- →Provide coverage for other prescribers as needed.
- →Collaborate with hospital staff and MH&BS programs to ensure holistic, patient-centered care.
- →Demonstrate mastery of the theories, principles, concepts, and methodologies of clinical psychiatric practice.
- →Exercise sound clinical judgment in selecting and adapting accepted theories, techniques, and practices when treating patients and prescribing medications.
- →Complete all required clinical documentation-including progress notes, treatment plans, clinical reminders, History and Physical examinations, and risk assessments-in a timely manner in accordance with hospital and MH&BS SOPs, and enter them into the electronic medical record.
- →Complete forms, letters, and other required documentation for Veterans.
- →Provide clinical consultation to colleagues as needed.
- →Attend team and clinic meetings, MHC staff meetings, and MH&BS general staff meetings.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
