About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

  • VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Major duties but not are limited to: Collaboration with the suicide prevention coordinator and inpatient treatment providers to support appropriate discharge planning following recommendations for treatment of patients at high risk for suicide at VA and Non-VA.
  • Monitors weekly follow-up for 30 days post discharge for veterans discharging from an inpatient setting for suicidal ideations or behaviors.
  • Assuring that all veterans assigned to the facility high risk monitoring list are being followed for a period not less than 90 days following hospitalization, or 90 days from the date of assignment to the high-risk list.
  • Monitoring activities include: Face to face and/or telephone contact with the veteran to assess their safety and ongoing compliance with treatment.
  • Contacting the veteran's primary therapist to coordinate monitoring activities, tracking appointments, and coordinating enhanced care as needed.
  • Provide care to those veterans awaiting assignment to an appropriate primary therapist.
  • Maintaining awareness of suicide treatment options and making recommendations to the patient's provider when new options become available.
  • Respond to consults and referrals from providers, the national crisis line, and other sources.
  • Providing veterans and family with education, resources, support and when appropriate development of an outpatient "Crisis Response Plan." Assuring that all high-risk patients have completed a Crisis Response Plan which documents crisis prevention strategies that the veteran agrees with.
  • Assisting with provision of on-going Guide Training program (Operation SAVE) with non-clinical staff.
  • Timely and accurate documentation, using appropriate notes and templates as defined within the facility Suicide Prevention Program as well as mental health.
  • Participation on the Interdisciplinary team to discuss cases on "High Risk for suicide behavior" and those who will be identify as a high risk.
  • Back-up and coverage for the Suicide Prevention Coordinator.
  • Must possess a valid, state driver's license.
