About the Role

The Samuel S. Stratton VA Medical Center has 1 vacancy for a Supervisory Social Worker (Program Coordinator) at the Albany VAMC. The incumbent serves as program coordinator at the GS-12 grade to assist in the implementation of policies and procedures from the National Recovery Coordinator and to facilitate implementation of recovery-oriented services in Mental Health Care programs as outlined in the VHA Uniform Mental Health Services Handbook and VHA Directive 1163.

  • Interviews Veterans and their family members/significant others to establish facts about the Veteran's situation, presenting problems and their causes, and the impact of such problems on the Veteran's functioning and health as part of a comprehensive psychosocial assessment.
  • Interprets and explains VA's treatment and benefit programs.
  • Reviews all data, subjective and objective, and makes a clinical assessment, identifying needs and strengths.
  • Effectively uses professional skill, objectivity and insight.
  • Provides education with recovery-oriented core principles to patients, family members, and significant others.
  • Supervises assigned staff in the area of psychosocial assessment.
  • Psychosocial Treatment: Provides evidenced-based psychotherapeutic interventions for individuals, groups, families and eligible caregivers in outpatient treatment and prevention-oriented domains.
  • Possesses the knowledge and ability to independently implement treatment modalities and provide psychotherapy for individuals, families and groups at the appropriate level of licensure and within current scope of practice.
  • Possesses general knowledge of Veterans' benefits and services relating to special programs to include service-connected compensation and non service connected pension and social security disability and facilitates referrals based on Veterans' needs and eligibility.
  • Responsible for clinical practice in the areas under the incumbent's supervision.
  • Coordination of Care: Independently provides consultation services to other staff members regarding the psychosocial needs of veterans and provides consultation on the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and adherence to treatment plans.
  • Responsible for clinical practice and treatment coordination in the areas under the incumbent's supervision.
  • Actively involved to ensure continuity of psychosocial treatment and services across clinical settings.
