About the Role
The New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System (NMVAHCS) is currently seeking a Social Worker Program Coordinator to join the Geriatric and Extended Care (GEC) team. This position primarily directs the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of social work policies, procedures, goals, and objectives within GEC. The incumbent oversees social work programs aligned with the Social Work Service (SWS), directly supervising Program Coordinators and managing these programs.
What You'll Do
- →Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Responsible for direct supervision of the Program Coordinators and is responsible for management of these Programs.
- →This includes and is not limited to the Community Nursing Home (CNH) program, Medical Foster Home (MFH), Adult Day Health Care (ADHC), Caregiver Support Program (CSP), and Veteran Directed Care program.
- →Responsible for the clinical practice of social workers assigned the GEC service line including Community Health Program (CH) Social Worker, Palliative/Hospice Care Coordinator and Palliative/Hospice Care Social Workers, Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC) Lead and HBPC Social Workers, and Community Living Center Social Worker.
- →Assumes technical and administrative responsibility for the management of social work programming in the Extended Care section of SWS as well as administrative and clinical supervisory responsibility for social work staff assigned to the GEC programs.
- →Responsible to the Chief, Social Work Service Care Line but practices independently, exercising initiative and independent judgment in day-to-day activities.
- →In unusual and/or complex administrative and clinical problems, the incumbent initiates consultation with the SWS Chief as well as with other authoritative resources at the Medical Center, such as the GEC Chief, Regional Counsel, Business Services, Fiscal, and Human Resource Management Services.
- →The clinical practice of assigned social work staff is monitored by the Chief, Social Work Service through the Extended Care Social Work Program Manager.
- →Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 07:30a.m. to 4:00p.m.

- →When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
- →Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
- →Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
- →Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
