About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

  • Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI.
  • The position functions as the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) Treatment Coordinator.
  • BHIP is a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals that delivers comprehensive, accessible, and Veteran-centered mental health care services.
  • The BHIP Mental Health Treatment Coordinator (MHTC) is responsible for various aspects of assessing, diagnosing, treating, and coordinating the treatment of Veterans within BHIP and the Mental Health Clinic.
  • The incumbent spends 75% of time providing front line clinical work and at least 25% of time on administrative duties.
  • Clinical work vs. administrative duties may fluctuate depending on clinic needs.
  • Duties include but not limited to: - Conduct bio-psycho-social assessments, inclusive of a diagnostic interview.
  • This includes determining the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and their families.
  • Use assessment findings to develop treatment plans that promote Veterans' optimal engagement in care and support the highest level of independence possible. - Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services which requires advanced and expert skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations.
  • Update treatment plans according to policy. - Provide coverage for other social work program areas as needed. - Conduct risk assessments for suicide, homicide, self-harm and other concerns.
  • Identify high risk patients and provide case management and assessment services in accordance with the Uniform Services Handbook and VA Suicide Prevention protocols. - Provide timely crisis intervention to prevent harm to self or others, coordinating family involvement when appropriate.
  • Consult with supervisors, psychiatrists, Suicide Prevention - Coordinators, and other team members when moderate or high risk is identified.
  • Complete suicide prevention documentation in accordance with established guidelines. - Assess for Military Sexual Trauma and link Veterans to clinically indicated care. - Coordinate ancillary services, provide referrals to VA, non-VA, government and community programs.
