About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

What You'll Do

  • VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU The HUD-VASH Social Worker is situated in the Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service Line.
  • They are responsible for serving as the primary contact with local Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) and providing case management-based services (directly or through referral) to Veterans experiencing homelessness or those formerly homeless.
  • The HUD-VASH Social Worker ensures that Veteran care is coordinated with the VA medical center, community health or mental health providers, and agencies that serve homeless populations.
  • Duties may include but are not limited to: Identifying behaviors or symptoms of abuse, neglect or exploitation.
  • Providing education on advance directives and advanced care planning.
  • Acting as an advocate with appropriate VA and community service providers/agencies when it serves the best interest of the Veteran and family members/caregiver.
  • Assessing the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and their family members identifying the Veteran's strengths, weaknesses, coping skills and psychosocial acuity.
  • Maintaining a current network of internal and external resources to educate the Veteran and/or family members/caregivers.
  • Providing social work case management and assist with the appropriate referrals.
  • Provide psychosocial services in the assigned area under supervision at the GS-09 level.
  • Independently provides clinical psychosocial and case management services for eligible Veterans in the program at the GS-11 level.
  • Continuous coordination with the community's homeless providers and coalitions as well as with other local, state, and federal agencies.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Work Schedule: Full-time; Monday - Friday; 08:00 am - 4:30 pm Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized EDRP Authorized: Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply for incentive.
