About the Role

You will serve as a Sign Painter MVO with National Park Service. The purpose of this position is to provide daily sign making skills in in support of critical Park operations. Work involves assisting in designing, fabricating, purchasing and installing signs for over 150 miles of park trails, 98 miles of roads, 550 plus buildings, and other related facilities.

What You'll Do

  • Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Evaluates sign needs in the field, and applies the sign standards of traffic control, sign placement and height conveyed in the Federal Highways Administration manuals to the planning and installation process.
  • Utilizes computer graphic programs, ARC O1S, laminators, stencil cutters, and vinyl printing and cutting machines to fabricate new signs and to repair existing signs including interpretive panels.
  • Utilizes various paints, finishes, stains and adhesives such as acrylic latex paint, oil base paint, spray paint and lacquer to finish and repair sign boards and arrowheads.
  • Installs posts and pipe in soil, rock, concrete, asphalt and compact composite materials.
  • Operates a Motor Vehicle including a 4 x 4 manual utility truck to transport equipment, signs and personnel to the job site.
  • Use sign making related software programs such as Gerber Omega, Flexi, and Art Path.
  • Import electronic file designs such as AI and EPS and converting them to electronic production files such as the Gerber plot data format.

  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
