About the Role
Serves as the VISN 5 Telemental Health HUB social worker at the GS-12 grade, practices social work at a level utilizing advanced practice skills and judgment. Specialized knowledge of practice related to assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a variety of mental health conditions. Performs specialized treatment of mental condition or illness, incorporating complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of veteran patients.
What You'll Do
- →Able to provide individual and family psychotherapy and advanced level case management interventions used in the treatment of veterans with specialized needs including polytrauma injuries, traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder, addictions or other serious disorders.
- →Develops and implements methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in specialty areas, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and design changes based on empirical findings.
- →Offers consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients treated in specialty areas, rendering professional opinions based on experience and expertise and role modeling effective social work practice skills.
- →May possess the ability to teach and mentor staff and students in the special area of practice and to provide supervision for licensure or specialty certifications.
- →Works as a member of a small interdisciplinary Mental Health Clinical Center (MHCC) team with all team members being based primarily off site, 100% teleworking in their residences.
- →Practices at the advanced level and has specialized knowledge of practice typically related to the Mental Health, Addiction and Trauma population.
- →Incumbent has at least 2 years in an area of specialized social work practice and licensed at the independent practice level.
- →May participate in telemental health or similar activities in order to provide services for Veterans who are located a prohibitive distance from VA facilities.
- →Is familiar with and provides treatment for a population with a range of mental health conditions and is not limited to only treating one disorder or specializing in only one type of clinical treatment Assesses the psychosocial and environmental needs or dysfunctions that are secondary to or exacerbating the psychiatric problems.
- →Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with the Veteran, family, and/or significant others, if appropriate, and formulates treatment goals that address identified needs, stressors and problems.
- →Completes suicidal risk screens and assessments, psychosocial assessments, integrated summaries, clinical reminders, patient education notes, and other documentations, as indicated.
- →Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8am - 4:30pm Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
- →Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
- →Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
