About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Senior Social Worker is a member of the Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences (MHBS) Service Line of the Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System (NAVAHCS), located at the NAVAHCS Prescott, Arizona Domiciliary and serves as a clinical expert in the area of Serious Mental Illness or Substance Abuse.
  • The incumbent's primary responsibilities are to provide expert clinical services in mental health with an expertise in serious mental illness, to include PTSD, or Substance Abuse.
  • Major duties include, but are not limited to: Provides expert mental health assessment and psychotherapy services for Veterans.
  • Participates in direct Veteran, family and Caregiver assessment and treatment.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical guidelines and protocols to ensure maximal access to and utilization of services at the Domiciliary.
  • Advises and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams throughout NAVAHCS and other relevant VA facilities regarding psychiatrically and medically complex and/or high-risk Veterans., Professional judgment, including the knowledge of normal and abnormal behavior, is an inherent competency applied in daily interactions with clients.
  • Direct treatment includes providing crisis assessment, treatment and dispositioning of high-risk Veterans and their families.
  • Provides referrals to VA mental health, medical and other services (e.g., Intensive Outpatient, Outpatient, Homeless programs, Inpatient psychiatric treatment, Home Based Primary Care), as well as other community resources, services, and programs.
  • Serves as a consultant for information on negotiating the complex processes Veterans, their families and caregivers encounter when interacting with government and community agencies.
  • Maintain and share with colleagues a knowledgebase of current theory and evidence-based treatment modalities by reading professional journals, attending conferences, clinic seminars and teleconferences, and materials distributed through VA and private sector sources.
  • Assist in data monitoring to measure the efficacy of the mental health services to the Domiciliary and in reporting this information to MHBS, NAVAHCS and VACO.
  • Evaluates program progress and outcomes and utilizes data to continuously modify and improve mental health services to Veterans within NAVAHCS.
