About the Role
The Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS), is a Senior Psychologist responsible for the overall clinical, administrative, and programmatic direction of assigned service lines at the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System (EKHCS). The incumbent's duty station is the Topeka division; however, the incumbent is responsible for staff and Service Lines in the assigned program areas at both the Topeka and Leavenworth divisions and 6 associated Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).

- →Toward this end, the incumbent must develop and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with Service Chiefs, Associate Chiefs of Staff (ACOSs), the Executive Leadership Team, and their administrative personnel, throughout the health care system and across VISN 4, Health Service Area (HSA) 4.2.
- →Across the assigned service lines, the DCOS is responsible for planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures; developing service-level and health care system-level goals and objectives consistent with the EKHCS mission; and monitoring, overseeing, evaluating, and coordinating the assigned service lines.
- →The DCOS ensures that all Service Chiefs and ACOSs under their purview are aware of and adhere to all local policies and procedures, VHA Directives, The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, State licensure standards, accreditation requirements, published Administrative Investigative Board (AIB) findings, and expectations and published findings of the VA Office of Inspector General (VA-OIG).
- →The incumbent conducts ongoing, intensive reviews and appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives and adherence to standards set by governing and accrediting bodies.
- →The incumbent also provides direct clinical psychological services for a minority of their time within their specialty area.
- →In addition, the DCOS functions as a subject matter expert and clinical leader within the health care system on issues relating to the discipline and practice of psychology.
- →The service lines assigned to the DCOS include, but are not limited to: Primary Care, Specialty Medicine, Geriatrics & Extended Care, Occupational Health, and FPPE/OPPE Specialists, and may include other or similar service lines as assigned by the Chief of Staff (COS) or Executive Leadership commensurate with organizational needs.
- →Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
