About the Role

The Deputy Chief of Staff, Health Care Business Operations (HCBO), is responsible for overseeing a broad portfolio of business operations programs vital to the effective functioning of the VA Maryland Health Care System. Decisions are made with wide latitude and independent judgment, ensuring the seamless integration of administrative, financial, and operational processes.

What You'll Do

  • Major Duties may include: Overseas patient care programs and performance improvement initiatives for all HCBO programs.
  • May provide coverage for the VAMHCS COS, and, in this capacity, oversee clinical operations for the facility.
  • Collaborates with the Chief of Staff and other members of the Executive Leadership Team, to achieve seamless coordination and implementation of HCBO programs across all VAMHCS sites.
  • Coordinates, motivates, and guides implementation of directives.
  • Serves as a catalyst for change in the HCBO and works with HCBO staff as appropriate to implement, guide, develop, and improve patient care programs, performance improvement initiatives, performance measure improvements and related processes.
  • Overseas multiple programs in VAMHCS which is a very large, complex, multi-site, highly affiliated, Category 1b VA Health Care System serving tens of thousands of Veterans throughout Maryland and surrounding areas.
  • Functions as a senior level program manager within VAMHCS.
  • Duties of the Deputy Chief of Staff, HCBO involve responsibility for oversight of all HCBO programming as well as setting of goals, priorities, policies, procedures, clinical programs, and resource allocations pertaining to the HCBO.
  • Provides leadership in establishing minimal standards as well as benchmarks for clinical practice, performance measure goal achievement, problem solving, utilization review, risk management, and productivity applicable to professional groups represented within HCBO programs.
  • Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
  • Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
  • Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
