About the Role
These positions may be filled for a seasonal period, up to 1560 hours, but can vary due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. What You'll Do
- →This position works under a Trails Maintenance Leader or other higher-graded employees.
- →The incumbent primarily assists in maintenance and construction of graded and paved trails, trail drainage, trail bridges, and guard rails.
- →Assists in the installation, repair and replacement of water diversion bars, cribbing, and retainer walls.
- →Removes windfalls, rockslides, surface outcroppings, and debris from trails.
- →Builds up tread surfaces in eroded areas.
- →Installs steppingstones or bridges at creek crossings.
- →Safely and effectively uses hand power tools required for the job and has the ability to maintain these tools properly.
- →May perform work on roads, trail signs, parking lots, boundary fences, corral repair, and construction.
- →Physical Effort: Heavy physical exertion is frequently required in bending, lifting, and using hand and power tools in trail work.
- →Working Conditions: Incumbent must have the ability to live and work effectively in isolated backcountry areas in close contact with small numbers of people.
- →Incumbent must live and work out-of-doors on projects including in mountainous terrain up to 14,000 feet in elevation in all extremes of weather.
- →Trail work is dusty and hazardous conditions may exist when moving rock, working in and around rockslide areas, working around explosives, falling and bucking trees, and working around machinery.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship required.
- ✓Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Males must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement.
- ✓You will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- ✓Occupancy of government quarters may be required.
- ✓Government housing may be available but is not guaranteed.
- ✓Use find a park to contact specific parks for more information on government housing.
- ✓You may be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
- ✓A uniform allowance will be provided.
- ✓You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and/or shift work.
- ✓You may be required to travel overnight away from home occasionally.
- ✓You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- ✓You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
- ✓If selected for a position/location that requires search and rescue, emergency response, use of firearms, watercraft operation, or commercial driver's license, you will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment.
