You will serve as a SAFETY ENGINEER in the INFRASTRUCTURE DIVISION, SAFETY BRANCH of NSWC PHILA DIV.
What You'll Do
- →You will serve as a safety engineering expert to evaluate and resolve complex operational hazards.
- →You will solve novel safety engineering problems, modify existing techniques, and design new approaches.
- →You will apply mechanical, structural, and industrial engineering principles on various hull and deck machinery and shipboard systems.
- →You will interpret policies, adapt safety guidelines, and establish new technical criteria where gaps exist.
- →You will review proposed designs for adequacy of safety-related controls for all existing and/or planned facilities, test sites, shipboard systems, and equipment.
- →You will apply safety measures to resolve hazardous conditions, unsafe work practices, and violations of standards to minimize the degree of risk to personnel and property.
Requirements
- ✓Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
- ✓Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
- ✓OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

- ✓OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
- ✓Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
