About the Role

The Nurse Manager (NM) is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned Outpatient Mental Health units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed. Responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.

What You'll Do

  • The Registered Nurse - Nurse Manager (Outpatient Mental Health) is responsible for the direction and supervision of operation, specific orientation, training, development of staff, and staff performance of their assigned units and providing coverage for other NMs as needed.
  • The major duties include, but are not limited to: Provides supervision, and leadership to Nursing staff in the Caregiver Support Program, Intensive Community Mental Health Recovery (ICMHR) Services, Veteran Recovery Program, and Outpatient Mental Health Clinics.
  • Works collaboratively with the assigned program managers in specialty programs to ensure compliance with program specific standards, directives, guidelines.
  • Conducts regular rounding on direct reports to provide leadership support, guidance, and oversight.
  • Works collaboratively with assigned program managers and actively participates in interdisciplinary teams to support the growth and development of outpatient mental health clinics and specialty programs.
  • Develops standards of practice and creates workflows for nursing staff in newly established programs.
  • Ensures adherence to program-specific standards, directives, and guidelines to support compliance and the delivery of high-quality, coordinated care.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
  • Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Foreign Education.
  • Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing programs, the nurse practitioner degree equivalency must be validated through an Agency recognized degree equivalency evaluation agency, such as the International Consultants of Delaware (ICD).
