About the Role
This position is part of the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management - National Energy Technology Laboratory, Department of Energy. As a Research & Development Operations and Engineering - Engineering and Safety Representative, you will review and interpret governmental and private industry codes, standards and best management practices and develops National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) policies and procedures, conduct of operations and integrated safety management.

- →Veterans shape the future of energy As a Research & Development Operations and Engineering - Engineering and Safety Representative, you will be: Responsible for directing and serving as a Safety Representative for in-house Research and Development (R&D) projects.
- →Reviewing and interpreting governmental and private industry codes, standards, and best management practices to develop NETL policies and procedures related to Environmental, Health & Safety (ES&H), conduct of operations, and integrated safety management.
- →Overseeing the R&D Safety Analysis and Review Systems (SARS) process, including the development of hazards analyses and assisting the Responsible Person with hazard mitigations and standard operating procedures.
- →Reviewing the R&D SARS package and ensuring initial assessments are conducted is a key part of the Safety Representative's duties.
- →Overseeing SARS actions for new research projects, modifications, equipment idling, and decommissioning, and seeking assistance from subject matter experts when needed.
- →Assisting research staff in resolving safety-related operational needs to ensure hazards are mitigated and monitored while meeting research objectives.
