About the Role
The Nursing Officer of the Day (NOD) provides administrative oversight, clinical leadership, and coordination of hospital operations during off tours, weekends, holidays and other designated tours of duty. The NOD independently exercises judgment in addressing staffing concerns, patient care issues, emergency situations and operation challenges while promoting safe, high-=quality care and compliance with organizational ;policies and regulatory requirements.
What You'll Do
- →The Nursing Officer of the Day (NOD) Registered Nurse (RN) executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management of complex patient care.
- →The NOD demonstrates the ability to lead and organize the delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice, including access to care and discharge planning.
- →The NOD is an expert in the delivery of patient care and serves as the facility nursing expert at all hours to support, provide and facilitate emergency medical support throughout the facility.
- →The incumbent serves as the facility expert for all patient care areas in identifying escalating medical crises, environmental factors, and in allocating staffing resources appropriately throughout the facility to meet the care needs of Veterans.
- →The NOD uses advanced clinical knowledge and judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes.
- →They function as an expert in clinical practice and/or areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities for nursing.
- →Systematically evaluates current practice and formulates outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within an area of expertise.
- →Guides, develops, and supports staff from a leadership perspective using professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities.
- →The NOD is an expert nurse who demonstrates expertise in leadership at the systems level that is sustainable, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex situations.
- →This position will serve 50% at the Baltimore Facility and 50% at the Loch Raven Facility.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
