About the Role
The Columbia VA Health System is actively recruiting a Registered Nurse (Infection Control) for the Acute Service Line. As a responsible member of the Acute Hospital; team the incumbent interacts with Veterans, Family Members, and an interdisciplinary team of professionals. Assesses plans, implements and evaluates care based on age specific components.
What You'll Do
- →The Registered Nurse for the Infection Control Acute Service Line is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.
- →Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction as it relates to infection prevention.
- →Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences.
- →Influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
- →Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs.
- →Demonstrates proficiency in practice based on conscious, deliberate planning.
- →Self-directed in goal setting for managing complex patient situations.
- →Use equipment correctly and accurately interprets data.
- →Demonstrate evidence of critical thinking skills in identifying, analyzing, and resolving problems.
- →Give advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters as directed by the Nurse Manager of Infection Control.
- →Gather and reporting data from available sources (i.e., SAIL, IPEC, etc.) in written reports as well as graphs that demonstrate the facilities scores and compliance with current infection control guidelines.
- →Use automated systems (Word, Excel) to input and manage data.
- →Develop presentations and provide training to educate employees on infection control.
- →Responsible for performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
