About the Role

The Columbia VA Health System is actively recruiting a Registered Nurse (Infection Control) for the Acute Service Line. As a responsible member of the Acute Hospital; team the incumbent interacts with Veterans, Family Members, and an interdisciplinary team of professionals. Assesses plans, implements and evaluates care based on age specific components.

What You'll Do

  • The Registered Nurse for the Infection Control Acute Service Line is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.
  • Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction as it relates to infection prevention.
  • Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences.
  • Influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in practice based on conscious, deliberate planning.
  • Self-directed in goal setting for managing complex patient situations.
  • Use equipment correctly and accurately interprets data.
  • Demonstrate evidence of critical thinking skills in identifying, analyzing, and resolving problems.
  • Give advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters as directed by the Nurse Manager of Infection Control.
  • Gather and reporting data from available sources (i.e., SAIL, IPEC, etc.) in written reports as well as graphs that demonstrate the facilities scores and compliance with current infection control guidelines.
  • Use automated systems (Word, Excel) to input and manage data.
  • Develop presentations and provide training to educate employees on infection control.
  • Responsible for performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
