About the Role

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager with supervisory duties, responsibility and accountability for the 24/7 operation of their units. The ANM has responsibility for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and provides input into the evaluation of individual staff performance. This position is located in the Spinal Cord Injury- RCF at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital.

What You'll Do

  • The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM's) Functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
  • Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and creating innovative process improvement initiatives.
  • Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team.
  • Enhances care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.
  • The ANM engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
  • Adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
  • Equips staff with tools for competent care and promotes an environment of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
  • Promotes alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
  • The ANM contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care.
  • Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Aligns nursing and clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution.
  • Promotes a workplace positively to achieve the organizations vision and mission.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
