About the Role
The LTC Charles S. Kettles VA Medical Center is seeking a Full-Time Registered Nurse (RN) - Assistant Nurse Manager assigned to the Operating Room in Surgery service, aligned under the Associate Director, Patient Care Services.
What You'll Do
- →The Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) in overseeing operations of the operating room.
- →Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Fosters team development, ensures compliance with standards of clinical practice, and serves as a key liaison between staff and leadership.
- →Combines clinical proficiency with leadership responsibilities and is often considered part of the succession plan for future Nurse Manager positions.
- →Functions as a proficient clinician and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or overseeing direct patient care.
- →Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.
- →Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
- →Demonstrates sound decision-making and judgment and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- →Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and leading innovative process improvement initiatives.
- →Exercises the authority to direct work, assign duties, evaluate employee performance, recommend employee awards, approve or deny leave, recall employees to duty, propose discipline, and to adjust their grievances, or to effectively recommend such proposed discipline or grievance adjustments for employees under their direct supervision.
- →Drafts schedules and leave for final approval by the NM.
- →Assists with making recommendations for selection of candidates for employment.
- →Applies clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision making, and evaluating outcomes; providing feedback to the NM.
- →Oversees work assignments and provides reports of contact or assists with fact findings as needed to provide the NM with the information necessary to make recommendations for counseling and/or disciplinary actions.
- →Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
