About the Role

The New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) Ambulatory Surgery Unit - Post Anesthesia Care Unit is seeking qualified applicants to join our team!

What You'll Do

  • The Pain Management Registered Nurse (RN) identifies gaps in knowledge or care delivery within the pain management team and initiatives interprofessional education and quality improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Develops audits and/or research activities to improve evidence-based standards of care.
  • Advocates for a Whole Health model of care and treatment of patients with pain and provides leadership to clinical support staff in advocating for patients' care and rights beyond immediate care needs.
  • Program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level.
  • Program is defined as a substantial coordinated group of activities impacting patients and/or employees.
  • Duties include but not limited to the following: Contributes to facility wide quality improvement and mentorship activities.
  • Provides education to nurses and other healthcare professionals on pain theory and nursing care of patients with acute and persistent pain outside of the inpatient setting locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level.
  • Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age specific components.
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
  • Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
  • Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
