About the Role

This position is located in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, in the Business & Technology Division. Career-seasonal positions are subject to release and recall procedures. These positions offer permanent benefits but not year-round work. Selectees will be in non-pay/non-duty status for 2 weeks to 6 months annually, depending on project needs or weather. They are guaranteed at least 6 months of work and no more than 50 weeks per year. The typical season runs February-December but may vary.

What You'll Do

  • In this position, your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc.
  • Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S.
  • Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds.
  • Assist higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g. cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.); assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings; communicate audit results to supervisor.
  • Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others.
  • Review shift reports and count funds collected; Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors.
  • Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items.
  • Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.
  • If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, or emergency response duties.
  • Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station.
  • Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight.
  • Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations.
  • High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods.
  • Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.

Requirements

  • Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.
  • You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists.
  • Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
  • A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.
  • Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
