About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

What You'll Do

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Provides a full range of psychological assessment services and diagnoses mental disorders, particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients with both physical and psychological problems who are undergoing inpatient rehabilitation training/treatment within the Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Integrated Rehabilitation Program (CIIRP).
  • Administers a variety of assessment measures to clarify diagnoses, develop treatment plans, offer vocational recommendations, and provide consultation to interdisciplinary rehabilitation team.
  • Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others.
  • Provides comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
  • Assists patients and family members in developing coping strategies to manage the stressors of the adjustment process after a stroke, amputation, loss of vision, or other physical condition with impact in independence and function.
  • Meets regularly with interdisciplinary teams to discuss cases and treatment progress/plan.
  • Works with other interdisciplinary team members to collaboratively achieve rehabilitation goals.
  • Leads outpatient psychotherapy groups for individuals who have survived a stroke and for individuals who are status-post limb amputation.
  • Provides consultation to professional staff within the San Juan VA Medical Center and to community providers, concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans for the patients in their care and in the CHIRP program.
  • Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients, including prompt completion of clinical reminders.
  • Functions independently as a member of the VA Caribbean Healthcare System Staff, with full clinical privileges.
  • The incumbent assumes complete professional responsibility for his clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.
  • Refers to other disciplines for treatment outside purview and expertise of a professional psychologist.
  • Provides services and/or coverage at the Interdisciplinary Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Pulmonary section, Blind Rehabilitation and other locations as needed.
