About the Role
About the Position: Department of Psychiatric Nursing at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Rotating shift work is required, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. You will provide a wide range of nursing care to patients of all ages, contributing to their health and recovery. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
What You'll Do
- →Perform intake and observation of Triage patients (phone/in-person); assess mental status for emergencies.
- →Observe for suicidal/homicidal ideation, paranoia, and medication reactions.
- →Document vitals/behaviors in EMR; report abnormalities to RN/LIP.
- →Process admissions (contraband searches, charting).
- →De-escalate combative patients and assist with physical restraints.
- →Co-facilitate group and 1-on-1 therapy.
- →Assist with care plans and provide addiction education.
- →Monitor patients post-ECT/TMS.
- →Perform 1:1, line-of-sight "special watch" for high-risk patients.
- →Take vitals, collect specimens, and escort patients.
- →Conduct ward inspections, manage inventory, and train staff.
