About the Role

This position is located in the Atlanta VA Medical Center, Surgical and Perioperative Service. The Program Support Assistant serves within the Office of the Service Line Manager (Chief of Surgery) in a capacity to facilitate administrative services for the access, provision, and delivery of direct patient care by the sections comprising the Surgical & Perioperative Care Service.

What You'll Do

  • Service Line sections for this position include Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastic Surgery, Urology, and Vascular Surgery.
  • The employee is responsible for a variety of complex administrative and programmatic duties in support of all areas involved with the provision of surgical patient care.
  • This includes, but is not limited, to support attending and resident physician staff, non-physician clinical staff, administrative staff, Ambulatory Surgery, and Surgical ICU.
  • In addition, the incumbent serves as a liaison to patients, the Surgical Clinic, the Eye Clinic, family members, visitors, other Medical Center departments, and Affiliated Medical Schools.
  • The incumbent is accountable to the Supervisory Medical Administrative Specialist.
  • Duties include but are not limited to: Obtain computer codes for residents, medical students, fellows and staff.
  • Provide administrative support to the Chief of Surgery, Administrative Officer and Sup.
  • Medical Administrative Specialist.
  • Maintain calendar of appointments for Service Line Manager, using MS Outlook.
  • Prepare correspondence, memos, agendas, meeting minutes, reports and other documents.
  • Schedule meetings and conferences for the surgical conference room.
  • Order office supplies and maintains adequate supply inventory.
  • Prepare travel request, education request and track through to approval.
  • Serve as timekeeper.
