About the Role

The VA St. Louis Health Care System is recruiting for Full-time Cardiologist located within Specialty Care Service at our John Cochran Division, providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being. The St. Louis VA Health Care System provides cutting-edge surgical and procedural care to veterans.

What You'll Do

  • Cardiologist will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties: Generalized duties of a staff heart failure cardiologist involves a focus on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of many different heart and blood vessel conditions, but specifically focusing on advanced heart failure, cardiogenic shock, and assessing candidates for advanced heart failure therapies.
  • Confer with cardiac surgeons when major surgery is deemed necessary.
  • Perform cardioversions on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.
  • Administrate moderate sedation for procedures such as transesophageal echo and/or cardioversion.
  • Participate in the expanded use of clinical video telehealth (VVC and CVT)/electronic consultation (e-Consult), as well as in person clinics in VISN 15 Eastern Orbit facilities to improve access to cardiology care.
  • Share call with other Cardiologists.
  • Call is for 1-2 weeks at a time, with coverage of inpatient consults during that week and weekend along with cardiology fellows.
  • Expertise in establishing and running a CPET program, or an advanced cardiac computer tomography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging programs is desirable.
  • Timely documentation is necessary in all areas in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Maintaining professional competency, courtesy, and flexibility to provide the necessary services of this specialty to our Veteran population.
  • May also be asked to serve on committees, participate in quality assurance programs, assist facility in meeting established performance measures in the areas of Cardiology and such other duties as assigned by the Chief of Medicine.
  • All administrative work should be completed in a timely fashion.
  • The Cardiologist will participate in inpatient and outpatient quality care, teaching, and research related to cardiovascular diseases.
  • Candidate will apply national and VA guidelines to patient screening, surveillance, and management of cardiovascular diseases.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation/examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
