About the Role

This Job announcement is for to current, permanent employees of the Central Virginia VA Health Care System only.

What You'll Do

  • The Medical Director of Community Care (CC) reports to the Assistant Director of the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FHCC) and serves as the clinical and administrative coordinator providing leadership and oversight of the Community Care program for the Central Virginia VA Health Care System.
  • The incumbent is responsible for managing a subordinate team and working across Central Virginia VA Health Care System facilities, Community Care leadership, clinical teams, and external providers to facilitate timely referrals, consult reviews, care coordination, and high-quality, cost-effective healthcare services for Veterans receiving care in the community.
  • These areas may be supervised by other staff who ultimately report up to the Medical Director of Community Care.
  • The Richmond VA Medical Center is a level 1a 349-bed facility offering primary, secondary, and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, intermediate care, acute and sustaining spinal cord injury, skilled nursing home care, and palliative care.
  • There are four community-based outpatient clinics located in Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, Emporia and Spotsylvania County, Virginia, and a strong affiliation with the Medical College of Virginia.

  • Responsibilities encompass planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating programs and outcomes; addressing complex personnel issues; participating in executive-level decision-making; and guiding the development and implementation of standards for Community Care.
  • The duties and responsibilities of the Medical Director of Community Care include, but are not limited to the following: Assisting physicians and advanced practitioners with consults and care coordination.
  • Provide clinical guidance to Community Care staff; assist in training and development of staff and stakeholders.
  • Serve as a clinical liaison between VA teams and community providers to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Facilitate communication between Community Care staff and leadership.
  • Act as a content expert with Veterans Affairs and non-Veterans Affairs providers.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
