This position is located in Pharmacy Service at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System. Pharmacy technicians may fill orders, dispense/deliver medications using automated systems or provide technical customer service to Veterans related to prescription needs.
What You'll Do
- →Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Prepare medications by counting, pouring, weighing, measuring, and mixing or compounding oral and intravenous medications.
- →Prepare medications for distribution to inpatient wards and clinics and outpatients for pickup and mailing.
- →Works in collaboration with other pharmacy technicians and responds to requests of pharmacists and other pharmacy supervisory staff.
- →Maintain patient profiles, prepare insurance claim forms, stock, and take inventory of medications.
- →Dispensing prescriptions at the pharmacy window and prepacking medications.
- →Properly stores all pharmaceuticals, taking special precautions in handling of hazardous or perishable materials Obtains proper medication or material in the proper strength and dosage form; determines proper amount and counts, pours, or measures the medications; affixes proper label; and records required data on order.
- →Prepackages medications in unit of use or unit dose packaging with proper label.
- →Inventories replenished emergency carts without a second view.
- →Collects drug use evaluation data for quality improvements purposes.
- →Operates and maintains complicated pharmacy equipment Compounds and/or reconstitutes oral or external medications (non-sterile) without a second review.
- →This includes calculating and converting to proper weights and measures the amount of drug or solution to be used Answers questions from pharmacy and non-pharmacy personnel regarding drug distribution.
- →Identifies basic therapeutic problems such as duplicate therapy with drugs in the same class and alerts the pharmacist to the possible need for clinical intervention.
- →Performs all duties of lower graded technicians, if required.
- →Work Schedule: Full-Time, Rotating all shifts-12a-12p;Nights;Days;Holidays;weekends; 7a-330p;1030a-7p; 3p-11.
