About the Role
The Surgery Pharmacy Technician is a highly specialized, nationally certified technician who will perform a variety of complex functions in the surgery satellite pharmacy and operating rooms. Most duties will be performed in the surgery segregated compounding area (SCA).

- →VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include but not limited to: Performs essential role in preparation, compounding, dispensing, and distribution of sterile and nonsterile medication within designated surgery and procedural areas.
- →After prescription/order(s) are reviewed by a pharmacist for therapeutic propriety, reviews orders for technical accuracy and alerts pharmacist to any concerns so that the item dispensed corresponds to the drug and dose ordered.
- →Receives, reviews, and prepares physician order for sterile, non-sterile, and controlled substance medications.
- →Performs accurate product identification, labeling, dosage calculation, and compounding of agents by utilizing package literature, written procedural guidelines, and application of specialized knowledge.
- →Successfully completes assignments and maintains annual competencies to compound non-hazardous IV sterile preparations according to USP standards.
- →Follows proper aseptic preparation techniques when compounding hazardous and non-hazardous medications.
- →Reviews anticipated inventory needs and notifies procurement technician in a timely manner of products required.
- →Assists in maintaining all required records related to sterile compounding and controlled substance dispensing.
- →Maintains inventory in Anesthesia Workstations and other automated dispensing cabinets in the surgical and procedural areas.
- →Adds/removes product and adjusts par levels based on utilization reports.
- →Assists with investigating and resolving controlled substance discrepancies.
- →Maintains surgery satellite medication inventory, compounding supplies, and cleaning products to ensure availability and minimize waste.
- →Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly SCA room cleaning to include check for soon to expire medications.
- →Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 0530 - 1400.
Requirements
