About the Role
This Nursing Assistant position is located within the Specialty Care Inpatient areas at the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System. The Nursing Assistant provides coverage to various clinical areas in the inpatient setting as assigned and is responsible for delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others.
What You'll Do
- →Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include, but not limited to: Provide nursing care to patients with multiple geriatric, psychiatric, and/or medical problems.
- →Perform a variety of nursing care activities, including but not limited to: vital signs, brace/splint application, culture specimen collection, activities of daily living, and glucose monitoring.
- →Observe, report, and record current observations such as patients' physical condition, emotional response, skin condition, variations in vital signs, personal habits, and reactions to illness and treatment, documenting these in the approved format.
- →Recognize the need for and institute emergency measures; assist in resuscitation procedures during cardiac and/or pulmonary arrest.
- →Interpret the appropriate information to identify each patient's age-specific needs and provide the necessary care.
- →Respond to concerns of patients and visitors in a manner that is effective and improves customer satisfaction.
- →Check equipment, supplies, and containers to ensure products are not outdated and are appropriately stocked according to unit procedures.
- →Manage patient behavior appropriately, intervene when necessary, and request assistance from other healthcare members as needed.
- →Enter information about the patient's condition in the chart, utilizing appropriate formats.
- →Serve as the unit's safe patient handling liaison.
- →Serve as a preceptor and mentor to other Nursing Assistants.
- →Orient members of the healthcare team to the unit, as appropriate.
- →Prepare, ambulate, transport, and position patients using the necessary equipment.
- →Work Schedule: Sunday-Saturday, Day Shifts, 8 and 12 hour shifts.
Requirements

- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination or evaluation.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- ✓Training provided.
