About the Role
The Nursing Assistant - Medical Surgical Unit position provides patient care within the ICU, Telemetry, and Medical/Surgical Unit at the Central Iowa VA Medical Center in Des Moines. This position performs activities of daily living and provides a range of care that contributes to the Veteran's treatment plan, recovery, and wellness under the direction of a licensed health care provider.
What You'll Do
- →Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include, but not limited to: Manages patient behavior and appropriately intervenes as needed.
- →Participates in treatment team meetings for resident care planning.
- →Monitors and documents patient intake and output, reports any deviations.
- →Performs nursing procedures within scope of practice and according to policies and standard procedures including, but not limited to: enemas, catheterization, colostomy care, skin care, simple dressing, application of braces and prosthetic devices.
- →Serves as a preceptor and mentor to other Nursing Assistants.
- →Administers complete tracheostomy care, including suctioning.
- →Work Schedule: This is an intermittent position.
- →Intermittent employment is defined as non-fulltime employment in which employees serve under an excepted or competitive service appointment without a regularly scheduled tour of duty.
- →A position with an intermittent work schedule is sporadic and unpredictable so that a tour of duty cannot be regularly scheduled in advance.
