About the Role
About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
What You'll Do
- →Performs the full range of specialized peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) duties.
- →Assesses patients and independently places, maintains, and removes PICCs, primarily using ultrasound guidance.
- →Troubleshoots complex cases and assists other providers with difficult vascular access.
- →Ensures sterile technique and infection control standards are met.
- →Serves as the hospital's vascular access resource person.
- →Develops and provides didactic and clinical instruction on PICC placement and management for nurses and physicians.
- →Creates and updates hospital policies, patient education materials, and provides expert consultation on device complications.
- →Manages the daily PICC caseload based on patient urgency.
- →Leads performance improvement initiatives by collecting and analyzing data on catheter performance, complications, and patient outcomes.
- →Represents the department on multidisciplinary committees and acts as a team leader for the infusion/PICC service.
