About the Role
The Nurse Manager functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. They are the designated first-line supervisory authority and are responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units. They are self-directed and influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and leading innovative process improvements and initiatives.

- →The Portland VA Medical Center provides primary care and specialty health services, including mental health services, surgical services, medical specialties, rehabilitation care and more.
- →Duties include, but not limited to: Designate First Line Supervisory Authority, responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other RN Managers as needed.
- →Responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff and Evolution of individual staff performance.
- →Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team.
- →Influences Care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.
- →Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
- →Adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
- →Equips staff with tools for competent care and promotes and environment of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
- →Promotes alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
- →Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
