About the Role

The Nurse Manager, 5 West Medical Oncology, ensures high-quality professional nursing care for Veterans requiring medical/oncology inpatient services and maintains professional clinical and leadership competencies including the care of medical/oncology patients and other inpatient populations. The Nurse Manager is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed.

What You'll Do

  • The Nurse Manager, 5 West Medical Oncology, performs duties that include, but are not limited to the following: Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
  • Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and participating in innovative process improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrates specialized knowledge and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.
  • Responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.
  • Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team.
  • Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.
  • Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
  • Adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
  • Equips staff with tools for competent care and promotes an environment of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
