The Nuclear Medicine Technologist position is assigned to the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, Radiology Service and Nuclear Medicine Section. The Cincinnati VA Medical Center is a 1B facility and has research and multiple Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
What You'll Do
- →The duties of the Nuclear Medicine Technologist includes but are not limited to the following: Adheres to all ALARA (as low reasonably achievable) practices regarding radioactive material.
- →Receives packages at the Hot Laboratory.
- →Reviews packages to determine if they are properly packaged and takes appropriate actions.
- →Performs package wipes and surveys of incoming and outgoing packages.
- →Documents receipt and disposal of packaging.
- →Properly documents the receipt of radioactive material for patient or research use.
- →Properly performs Hot Laboratory quality control to include dose calibrators, well counters, uptake probes, Geiger-Mueller (GM) survey meters, and ion chambers on a daily, quarterly, annually basis when applicable.
- →Performs daily and weekly surveys and wipes for radioactive contamination monitoring.
- →Performs spill clean up and document the actions taken in accordance with U.S.
- →Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and National Health Physics Program (NHPP).
- →Utilizes proper methods for the use and storage of radioactive material.
- →Monitors and disposes of radioactive material in accordance with NRC and NHPP regulations.
- →Prepares radioactive material for transportation.
- →Analyses circumstances contributing to radiation exposure and recommends procedures to minimize exposure.
Requirements
- ✓You must be a U.S.
- ✓Citizen to apply for this job.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
