This position is located in the Golf Branch, Recreation Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department within Navy Region Southwest (NRSW). The incumbent assists with the business and administrative management of the golf shop operation. The duties are normally carried out with minimal supervision and during the absence of the golf course manager and assistant manager, typically afternoons, evenings or on weekends/holidays.
What You'll Do
- →70% Retail Golf Shop: The incumbent assists the Golf Operations Manager and Assistant Golf Operations Manager in the efficient operation and administration of the Golf Pro Shop and related areas including retail space, club and cart rentals, and the driving range program.
- →A significant amount of time is spent controlling the sales counter and cash register operation.
- →Assists the Managers to operate, maintain, purchase, display and control retail golf merchandise operation and promote sales and excellent customer service.
- →Counsels patrons in the purchase and use of merchandise and insures that quality products are ordered and stocked appropriately.
- →Prepares purchase order requests for merchandise and supplies and forwards to supervisor for approval.
- →Insures staff keeps golf shop neat and clean and maintains appeal by constantly changing/re-arranging fixtures and displays in an effort to increase sales and improve customer satisfaction.
- →The incumbent helps maintain records of all merchandise ordered and received, paying particular attention to special orders and requests from patrons for specific items to sell.
- →Conducts surveys and evaluates past, present and future sales in an effort to formulate a buying plan for the next season. 20% Administration: Provides input for the overall development of the golf recreation program.
- →Promotes the program by helping to coordinate golf leagues, outings, clinics, intramural golf, junior golf and tournament programs.
- →Maintains relationships in and out of the department as necessary to accomplish departmental functions.
- →Helps develop and maintain a public relations program designed to promote and develop local interest in the golf course and the game of golf.
- →Assists in the selection, scheduling, training, instruction (including safety) and guidance of golf shop personnel.
- →Constant review of more efficient methods and procedures is required.
- →Helps maintain a working climate in which employees are effectively motivated to work to their fullest potential.
