About the Role
The incumbent serves as a microbiologist with Veterinary Services (VS) Diagnostics & Biologics (D&B) National Veterinary Services Laboratories. The section furnishes diagnostic bacteriologic and molecular support for the programs.
What You'll Do
- →The duties may include, but are not limited to: Conducts and interprets microbiological and molecular tests; such as, isolation and characterization of Mycobacteria and Brucella isolates recovered from diagnostic cases.
- →Maintains compliance with and performs laboratory procedures according to current biosafety level 3 laboratory standards, laws and regulations.
- →Keeps records and maintains equipment, supplies, and reagents in congruence with ISO 17025 certification requirements for Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC).
- →Maintains accurate records of diagnostic case work in proper detail and format to verify that procedures are conducted according to established guidelines and regulations.
- →Designs and conducts training programs for individuals or classes which effectively communicate the principles of diagnostic bacteriology and genotyping.
- →Maintains the Mycobacteria culture collection and sample repository in accordance with current USDA-APHIS, HHS-CDC or other government agency regulations.
- →Collaborates with other scientists from federal, state, university, and foreign laboratories in their areas of expertise.
