The Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) position is in the Sterile Processing Services (SPS) of the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center located in Houston, Texas. This position receives Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) and completes reprocessing of contaminated critical and semi-critical RME in the decontamination area and performs quality assurance tasks for SPS.
What You'll Do
- →Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The primary purpose of this position is to perform a range of duties required to decontaminate, clean, prepare, store, and distribute medical supplies and equipment used in all areas of the hospital.
- →Duties of the Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) may include but are not limited to: Provides sterilization, preparation, supply items and Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) decontamination and distribution support for the medical center.
- →Maintains knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that document the processes and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and preparation of RMEs.
- →Receives contaminated critical and semi-critical Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) in the decontamination area and may receive noncritical equipment as well.
- →Disassembles the RME and determines the correct cleaning method, such as, but not limited to, ultrasonic cleaners, mechanical washers/disinfectors, cart washers, and chemical cleaning/decontamination agents, as determined by manufacturer instructions.
- →Inspects, assembles, and determines the correct method and packaging for sterilization, such as, but not limited to steam, Sterrad, and high-level disinfecting scope preprocessors.
- →Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 3:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
- →(Midnight) OR 12:00 a.m.
- →(Midnight) to 8:00 a.m.
- →All positions include rotating weekends and holidays; the work schedule will be discussed during the interview process and is subject to change based on the needs of the facility.
- →Compressed/Flexible: Not Authorized.
