The Medical Instrument Technician Polysomnography position is located within Medical Service at the Dayton VA Medical Center, Dayton, Ohio. The primary responsibility of this position is to monitor and operate equipment used in sleep studies. Overall responsibilities include taking an active role in portable sleep study and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) programs, and support of sleep-related treatment and teaching programs.
What You'll Do
- →Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include but are not limited to: Downloads, confirms adequate recording, and electronically transfers reports to the electronic health record folder for completion.
- →Scores sleep studies and alerts providers of critical or urgent results.
- →Assists in communicating sleep study results with patients and arranges for appropriate follow-up in the sleep clinic.
- →Independently programs and sets up initial positive airway pressure (PAP) equipment for issue to Veteran based on prescription, including pressure adjustments per prescription or provider recommendation.
- →Works with a variety of brand and types of positive airway pressure (PAP) equipment.
- →Educates Veterans on safe and proper use of PAP machine, mask, and associated equipment to assure optimal function and sleep quality.
- →Ensures patient's significant other or caregiver fully understands setup procedures and function.
- →Troubleshoots PAP equipment in CPAP clinic or in other settings as required and evaluates mask interfaces to determine causes for poor efficacy, compliance, or need for equipment replacement to correct problems whenever possible or discuss with sleep specialist if needed.
- →Ability to fill in as overnight sleep technician.
- →Work Schedule: Monday-Sunday 7:30 pm to 7:00 am/ 6 shifts and 7:30 pm to 6:30 am/ 1 shift per pay period Compressed/Flexible: Available Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
- →When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
- →Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
- →Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
- →Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
