About the Role

This position is located in the Surgical Care Service service line within the Atlanta VA Health Care System.

What You'll Do

  • Major duties include (but are not limited to): Provides orientation and situational technical advice regarding VA policies and procedures.
  • Assists staff with medical-related legal problems, including involuntary commitments, orders of protective custody and management of unruly or severely disturbed patients.
  • Determines the extent of release of medical or social data from patients' records, safeguards and ensures the rights of patients and functions as a patient representative.
  • Directly intervenes when problems regarding patient activities occur, advising clinical staff of appropriate administrative action.
  • Investigates issues and prepares complex and sensitive correspondence relating to patient care activities.
  • Guides all Surgical personnel assigned to non-standard duty tours (such as medical clerks, telephone operators, file room personnel, and admitting clinic clerks) and serves as an advisory resource.
  • Independently managing employees, including coordination, technical accuracy, consistency, and distribution of work.
  • Approves leave, resolves complaints, addresses grievances, evaluates performance, recommends awards, takes/recommends disciplinary/performance-based actions and writes position descriptions/performance standards.
  • Ensures new employees receive necessary training and oversight, and evaluates their learning progress, training needs, and readiness for promotion.
  • Identifies and implements innovative methods to improve workflow, resulting in more efficient customer service.
  • Participates in special projects and analytical studies, as needed.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30pm.
  • Schedule may vary based on agency need.
