About the Role

The Medical Instrument Technician (Polysomnography)- Lead will perform a variety of Neurodiagnostic and polysomnographic testing as well as the application of durable medical equipment (DME) program for any sleep related breathing disorder for patients. Within the Northern California care system and for patients covered under any sharing agreement with other facilities.

What You'll Do

  • The incumbent will perform Lead Technician functions which will include but is not limited to: Distribute and balance the workload among technicians that they will be leading, assure efficient, high quality and compassionate patient care.
  • Track the status and progress of work among technicians that they will be leading, and make day-to-day adjustments, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs which cannot be completed promptly.
  • Estimate and report on expected time of completion of work and maintain records of work accomplishments and time expended and prepare production reports as requested.
  • Provide on the job training to employees in accordance with established procedures and practices including written instructions, reference materials and supplies.
  • Monitoring equipment and inventory, arranging for repairs or replacements weekly or more often if needed.
  • Maintain a current knowledge to respond to questions on procedures, policies, directives, etc. and obtain needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that arise.
  • Draft regular written updates to policies and procedures, and review existing ones regularly.
  • Management of consults including triaging new consults, and documenting results of outside hospital records of previous sleep studies.
  • Follow-up on work in progress and review completed work to ensure work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met.
  • Work Schedule: M-F 8-4:30pm Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
  • When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
  • Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year).
  • Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
  • Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
