About the Role

This vacancy is for a GS-2101-13, Marine Transportation Specialist, DCO, Asst COMDT for Prevention Policy, Inspections & Compliance Directorate, Office of Commercial Vessel Compliance, Fishing Vessel Division in Washington, DC.

What You'll Do

  • You will serve as a Marine Transportation Specialist and be responsible for participating in the development, interpretation, and implementation of rules and regulations pertaining to issues such as commercial fishing vessel safety, maritime safety, navigational safety, port safety, and personnel safety.
  • Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.
  • Typical work assignments include: Serving as a member of the Office of Commercial Vessel Compliance that is responsible for developing, interpreting, and implementing rules and regulations concerning maritime safety issues as they relate to the Commercial Vessel Safety Program, and particularly to Commercial Fishing Industry Vessels.
  • Providing recommendations, advice, and guidance to managers, inspectors and examiners of the CG, other agencies, classifications societies, and the marine industry regarding the development, applicability, interpretation and enforcement of internation treaties, laws, policies, and regulations relating to marine safety and commercial vessels. .
  • Establishing regulatory criteria in the broad area of maritime safety in the areas of commercial fishing, industry vessel safety, navigational safety, prevention and enforcement. .
  • Providing technical advice to CG field personnel and representatives of the maritime industry concerning the intent and application of maritime safety regulations.
  • Developing strategies and implementation methods for external outreach to the commercial fishing industry, which may include draft information articles for commercial fishing industry publications, managing contact lists for industry, and development and maintenance of websites for information sharing.
  • Providing authoritative and explicit replies to Congress, other governmental, maritime related agencies and the general public concerning the regulatory, policy, and interpretive aspects as it applies to the Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety Program.
