About the Role

You will serve as a MANAGER in the Electromagnetic Spectrum Warfare Department (WX), Platform Protection & Countermeasures Technologies Division (WXR) of NAVAL SURFACE WARFARE CENTER. The salary range shown above represents all of the positions within the band, including high grade positions. This is not a high grade position; therefore, the salary may be limited to a GS-14 Step 10 (currently $163,514).

What You'll Do

  • You will be responsible for the administrative and technical supervision of personnel.
  • You will develop plans affecting the organization's long-range goals, objectives, and direction, and require an analytical approach in order to forecast future trends and outcomes.
  • You will coordinate and integrate the work of lower organizational units, each of which may involve distinct areas of responsibility and require different skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the work.
  • You will identify where corrective action is needed and provide assistance and advice to lower-level supervisors where problems exist or are developing.
  • You will work closely with other supervisors and managers outside the unit to further activity and agency programs.
  • You will serve as the main point of reference with the sponsors of various programs within your responsibility and provide information and advice to higher level managers when the work of the unit impacts on other groups.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: For the 08XX Engineering Series: Successful completion of a bachelor's degree (or higher) in engineering.
  • The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (I) Professional registration or licensure: Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
  • For the 1501 Series: Successful completion of a degree in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science.
  • The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position; or Successful completion of a combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study as shown above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
  • For the 1550 Series: Successful completion of a bachelor's degree in computer science; or Successful completion of a bachelor's or higher degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
  • At least 15 of my 30 semester hours were in a combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
