About the Role
These positions are located in Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, in the Facilities Division. These are Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment. This job announcement is open to receive applications from the first 50 applicants. The job announcement will remain open until either the quota of 50 applicants, or 07/06/2026 is reached. What You'll Do
- →As a Maintenance Worker, you will perform the following duties: Performing recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher-graded workers.
- →Replacing light switches and household light fixtures and changing light bulbs.
- →Mixing masonry cement, sand and water, cinder blocks and flagstone.
- →Performing concrete and plaster touch up around existing historic and other masonry structures.
- →Testing and treating wastewater.
- →Operating and performing minor maintenance on vehicles such as ten-wheel dump truck, front end loader, bulldozer, and hot oil distributer.
- →Performing engineering equipment operation.
- →Chalmette, Louisiana: Chalmette is home to the Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery, located six miles southeast of New Orleans.
- →It is the historic site of the 1815 Battle of New Orleans and serves as the final resting place for U.S. soldiers from the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World Wars I and II, and Vietnam.
- →Marrero, Louisiana: Marrero hosts the Barataria Preserve, part of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve.
- →The area highlights the region's uplands, swamps, and marshlands, interpreting the natural and cultural history of southeastern Louisiana.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship required.
- ✓Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- ✓You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.
- ✓You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists.
- ✓Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
- ✓Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
- ✓You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
- ✓You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
- ✓A uniform allowance will be provided.
- ✓You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime work.
- ✓You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month.
- ✓You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
- ✓Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
